I paid a little under $400 from West Marine for mine. Still a lot more than "the deal" on straight 40s.

perhaps you could expand your negotiations to include other StatPower
products, i.e. ProSine 1000 / 1800.

They may look at $volume per order instead of only qty.

If you can negotiate better as a will-call, not a problem as they are just
accross town. Brokerage/Shipping might be same but perhaps a little less as
we'd hand carry/broker and ship from Blaine WA.

Just a thought.

I didn't check as I didn't want to 'log in' at statpower.

The 269.95 is confirmed C$ ?

Then as you say... it's not a good deal, which doesn't say much for the
company as I would think the discount should approach that of a regular
dealer discount.

We could perhaps do better with a StatPower dealer/distributor that may be
more willing to share his/her discount on a onetime no trouble purchase.

I wonder how come they have so much 'refurbished' stock as it would imply
lots of returns/repairs? or is it simply a way to sell and not get their
dealers in an uproar?

If their dealers are like mine, if there is any problem - equipment or unable to
read the manual and to lazy to - then most of the returns are for no apparent
reason. Many of the units that are returned for repair are fine. They just did
not put the fuse in, set the swithes right or were to lazy to make the correct
connection. I have purchased many refurbs and have only had a problem once or
twice. The units could also be customer returns and all that was done is
repackage them or scratch and ent type cosmetics.

You're right, Marcus.
I keep forgetting that there are non-GMCers out there that would do exactly
as you say.

I guess it's just like when they call us up to tell us our software is no
good ( because they didn't turn their printer on :-)

Missed the ProSine1800 on their list though :-( guess too new.

inverter that hums??? If not, then I don't understand, because I thought
two functions (i. e. inverter and charger) are in the original unit, but
handled electrically?????. Otherwise, if you just disconnect the battery
charging capability from the original inverter and substitute a new charger,
you're still left with electrical hum.

As I understand the Statpower unit you're proposing, is solely a battery
charger, right????

Am I missing something????

Tom,

I have 1 battery in back that is isolated for the generator, 1 up front to
start the engine, and a pair of 6 volt golf cart batteries (also up front)
for the coach, and want to replace my OEM converter/charger. I'm pretty
sure I need the 40, rather than the 40+, but need to do a little more
research to know for sure. Assuming I need the 40, I'd be interested in a
unit with the led monitor.

products you mentioned. I have been talking to Christine Berka,
, at 1-800-670-0707, extension 2177. I didn't realize
until after I sent the e-mail to everyone that it was more complicated than
just ordering them and having them shipped to me. thought NAFTA eliminated
all of that.

UPS from washington state would definetly be the way to go.

The truecharger 40 comes in units of 3 to a case. Price for 3units, CDN
809.85, for 6 CDN 1538.72, for 9, CDN 2186.60.
Remote LED panels are US $39.95 each.

finalize the deal.

I think the Statpower Truecharge 40 is an excellent replacement for the old
ferroresonant charger in our coaches. it has the advantage of smart
charging our house battery to maximum charge and prevents sulfating of the
plates.

No the original GMc had a 120 volt to 12 volt converter and battery charger.
Its output is strictly 12 volts. The statpower unit would replace it entirely

I've worked both sides of the computer retailer business - more than 80% of all units returned as defective have no problem.
The purchaser often doen't understand how to install it or has conflicts with other hardware. Since it is against the law to
sell returned merchandise as new, most companies try to restock it as "refurbished" or "repackaged."

Manufacturers often have a hard time reselling overstock returns because the stores sometimes damage the packaging - so they
end up being coded as "refurbished."

In the case of Statpower, some of these "refurbs" may be due to an internal fuse that must be replaced if you connect the unit
improperly. I don't know if they do a return-replace for in-warranty repairs of the fuse, but it seems reasonable.

Bottom line, refurb doesn't always mean that it failed. OTOH, much of the repackaged stuff is the same price as new, so why
not buy the virgin product?

By replacing the converter/charger with a charger only will make your entire 12v
system run solely off the battery. The stock system used your converter to
change 110v to 12v thus bypassing your battery. The charger system will keep
your battery charged while it is plugged into shore power. Darren

J.R.,

I believe that since the Onan has an alternator to charge its own isolated
battery, the 2 bank charger should be enough. The charger only has to
charge the starting and house banks. The 3rd bank for the Onan would not
be connected to the charger at all and would rely on the Onan to charge it
itself. This would also avoid the problem that someone on the list
reported about the Onan alternator kicking the Statpower out of charge mode
without having to modify the Onan.

I agree, as I stated earlier, the refurbished deal at Statpower for the
combination deals, i.e. chargers and inverters are a much better deal than just
buying the charger. Let's expand negotiations to cover combination purchases!!
Pro Sines mentioned above are great add ons.
