Sorry I haven't got back to the GMC List sooner about my trip, but i've
been a little busy clearing up things at work since I got back.
The trip was from Waukegan, IL up to WI to pick up my mother, and then
on to Virginia Beach, VA; Jacksonville, FL; and Tullahoma, TN before
returning home. Mother Nature was having a bad month!!! We got
trapped near Williamsburg, VA because of the ice storms knocking out
all the power ( no way to pump gas into the 'Banana'). My nephew
brought us some gas the next day after the roads were cleared of most of
the downed trees. Next stop was Jacksonville with no problems outside
of a little carb icing during a 40 degree peasoup fog in GA.
Oh, yeah, who has the GMC at the American Geneneral Finance in
Jacksonville?? My brother and I took a look at it (outside only) while
I was there.
The trip back home (after a short stay at Tullahoma) was the worst
weather I've driven though in MANY Years. Black Ice on I-57, cars and
trucks in the ditches left and right. (GMCs do slide very well, by the
way) Horizontal blowing snow causing virtual whiteout conditions. When
the 'Banana' got home , there was about a 3 inch crust of ice front and
back.
But through all the fun (used up almost my entire supply of LP while
camping), the Statpower worked like a charm!!! A BIG improvement over
the previous OEM style 40 amp converter. And it is definitely much
quieter after the initial high rate charging.
Both my brother and I do have a question for the List, however.
WHERE are all the GMCs?? The only ones we saw were mine, his, and the
one in Jacksonville!!! This seems to be a recurring theme. I have only
seen 4 GMCs on the road in 4 years. Mine and my brothers account for
1/2 of that total.
Take care,
Bill Minor
