My suggestion is to get yourself a rebuilt starter and nothing fancy
(high torque starters with the extra windings) is necessary (just ask
for an Olds Toro Starter).
However, do make or purchase a Heat Shield. Your starter is
suffering from heat exhaustion which is common with big blocks.
