Could even be a loose bolt on the torque converter. Does it get louder with the engine in gear brake pedal engaged and gas.pedal adding more throttle
? Unfortunately there is a good chance you have a spun rod bearing. If this is the case and I hope it isn't if you have a replacement engine
installed be sure you do not let the shop reuse the existing oil cooler or you could be in need of another motor before you get back to the east
coast.
Safest way to go is a new external oilcooler and oil lines. Jim k. Stocks these. Try Kens suggestions with the belt removal and harmonic balancer
for looseness for sure. It is a very lonely feeling being broke down a long way from home best of luck to you and your bride.
