Just talked to the local service shop. They said it was the engine. I asked
if they pulled the pan or timing cover. Nope, but it's locked up tight.
(Duh, I already know that... why?) Anywise they want $10K-$11K to do my
engine!!! What a joke. Talked to a local guy up in Fremont that will take a
look at my coach and see how much he would charge to replace my engine. He
wants to know why it died first! Good starting point.
Jim Bounds says that's the way to go rather than ship it down to FL. for
$2K-$3K in shipping alone. He said he'd love to do the work but felt bad on
the shipping deal. He even said he would talk the local guy over any of the
hard parts to assist him. Man, I think we should promote Jim to "GMC Saint"
status! Thanks a million, Jim! Let me know what the "consulting fee" is when
it's all over and I'll drop you a check.
Next up I'll call Jasper and get the details on ordering a motor under the
GMCnet price and I'll get the coach back up in short order. Boy, I'm finally
starting to feel relief over this deal. Thought I'd have the local guy pull
the radiator to boil and pressure test it. New hoses, belts, clamps, etc.
Anything else you guys suggest I do while he's got the heart out?
