ok ok ok folks, lets get this straight

can we use the 500 hours with out the internet service ??

May be the data cable is the difference. They might not need to know if
you are doing the modem thing??

>I have just talked to two Sprint reps here at work (3M). They are on our
campus one day a week to answer questions, sell their service etc.

>If my memory is correct, and good people that is a huge if, Genes site
suggests that if you had a Sprint plant of 500 minutes for $50.00, that you
could interchange talk minutes with data minutes. Not true according the
the Sprint reps.

I believe what the SprintPCS Web Connection will get you is the connection to the Internet thru Sprint..
Otherwise, you would have to find a provider to dial up..

>>The question I asked the enchanting ladies was: If I buy the cable
$99.95, >>can I use my laptop and send and receive e-mails, browse webs etc,
and talk >>interchangeably under the 50/500 plan and the answer was no.

Enchanting maybe, Bright? Well... ?????

I am not sure why is this so difficult??

NO - Not unless your current IP is Sprint.

>>Otherwise, you would have to find a provider to dial up.

You just use your existing IP (Internet Provider). Unless you are not
on the internet (with browsing capabilites) then YES you need to get one.

You are just making a phone call, NOTHING else, NADA, ZIP. You may call ANY
phone number, ie; any internet provider you want. You do NOT need Sprint as
you IP service. AND Sprint IP service is NOT included in the package either.

The SprintPCS Web Connection is a Cable (a piece of wire with a connector at
each end). I admit it may be very poorly named, but it is hardware and
software (NOT a service). It has a serial 9-pin connector on one end that
plugs into your computer and the other end is a special connector that plugs
into your phone. Plus you get some DIALING software (JUST like you get when
you buy a new modem) so you can dial the number of YOUR IP service proivider
through your phone (ANY provider).

AND

You do NOT need a modem in your computer - your Digital Cell Phone acts as
the modem (in reality the modem is at Sprint). In other words, the cable
makes your phone look and act like a "modem" - the software lets you dial it
from your software programs (browsers, dialers, email, etc).

The info at Gene's web site is correct - just take it at face value, don't
try to read confusion into it.
