I remember reading an article that said there was a precedent in the
California courts that said we (GMCs') did not have to travel at the truck
speeds because we do not have axles or something. Also that we do not have
to pay for 3 axles when we go over a toll bridge. I thought your name was
connected to the article. What is it that makes us exempt from this ?? and
has it been tested in court ?

Anybody been on I-40 lately, Memphis to Nashville and either direction.
Truck speeds are rather high there. Not legal though.

Oops... you mean we're supposed to travel at Truck speed limit even when not
towing? :-)
We'd be the only ones most of the time [g]

Now ya'll don't have to worry about that in Houston...shucks, we got 18 wheelers and gravel
trucks going 65-70mph on the Inside Loop (610). You gotta drive fast or get run over!

Federally funded highways in Texas no longer have different posted speeds for cars or
trucks...resulting in huge 18 wheelers barreling down the road at 75-80 mph (where posted
speeds are 70mph).... That's scary!
And even more scary is what a recent city crackdown (the result of several horrific truck/car
accidents) on these speeding trucks has found: over 50% stopped are in violation of some
safety and/or other law and are ticketed to be taken out of service. Houstonians have
learned, out of self defense, to give truckers a wide berth....

Hi Rick: Actually I agree with your statement that a uniform speed is safer...but
what I see are very large trucks changing lanes to speed around slower
4-wheelers. (IMHO, the inner (610) loop is too congested for the new higher
posted speeds). Slower traffic does not always stay to the right...and a weaving
18 wheeler scares me witless, as I know that they will have a much harder time
stopping or even staying in control!

There have been increasing incidents of unsafe trucks being found; I venture
somewhat a result of being in a Gatt corridor.... This area has a high
concentration of refineries and chemical plants, so there are also plenty of
tankers on the road. Fortunately, as these usually carry hazardous material, they
are restricted to the Outer Belt, but I also give them a very wide berth when
traveling the metropolitan area.!

Hi Roger:

Oh...you must have been stuck on the Katy Parking Lot (I-10 in or outbound during
rush hours)...or maybe the Hwy 59 Parking Lot with it's endless construction...the
Hwy 45 to Galveston Parking Lot?...or was it Loop 610 past the Galleria Mall at
just about any hour during Thanksgiving to Xmas???
(Don't tell anyone, but that's one big reason we'll be moving to a little town
near Austin next year...^_^ )

drove 25 mph 'cause they just weren't in a hurry...!)
