i went for a ride sunday nite w/fam and about three minutes going down the street the kitchen cabinet started to smoke . the solaire furnace was smoking on the left side where the wires go in and a fire was starting inside. luckily i had water in the tank and put it out. has anyone had this type of problem.this could of been a tragedy.

Just curious to know how many of y'all HAVE jerked the Solaire and NOT
replaced it? I read of at least one GMCer who left the furnace out and uses
electric ceramic cubes to heat the coach. Anyone else done that and what
has been your experience?
Thanks

Richard, I took out my Solaire (it was working fine) and replaced it with 2
propane catalytic heaters. I did this for remolding and floor plan reasons and
not because of a reported fire hazard. I also like the glow and warmth of the
radiant heat the cats put out. As Arch would say, that's what I did.

Replaced mine with a Hydro-flame Excalibur. Some modification required but I like
the servicing aspect and its compact size.

I have, along with Gene Fisher, taken our Sol aire's out and cleaned
them, lubricated them, and re installed them. I will continue to use it
until I think it is a mistake. I was there listening to Wes and feel
that my furnace if working fine. I have no intent to replace it at this
time.
