The dipstick tube is very close to the exhaust manifold. It conducts heat to
the rod of the dipstick itself. I also burnt my finger really good about 6
years ago as a new owner.
The dipstick rod can also get very 'brittle' in this area from all that
heat. Use care when you insert and remove it, or you'll be working to
improve your plumbing skills when you try to fish out the broken part.
Lift up the engine compartment cover and take a look see with a flashlight
on the driver's side and you'll see what I mean. A quick peek into the
bowels of the beast will be very helpful.
As for alignment, you'll get many replies, but here's an answer in advance
that I learned the hard way... Get a good, 'laser' 6 wheel alignment from
someone who's done it before.
You'll be glad you did. Better driving, better mileage, less tire wear. Oh
and by the way, don't hit any curbs with the passenger side front tire or
your alignment will be a 'do over'.
