Reservations at state parks are made through a contractor's 800 number (I
never use it, so don't have it) but would not likely yield a spot this
close to the holiday. If it were me, and my starting point wasn't too far
south of SF, I'd consult the TL Campground Directory, and look for a site
on the coast north of San Francisco or on the lower Russian River. Try
Jenner or Duncans Mills. You'll cruise right by the redwoods, see some
awsome coastline, and can even loop through the wine country on your way
home. Others who live up your way should have some different suggestions.

Try http://cal-parks.ca.gov/. Most California parks are on a reservation
system although one of our favorites (Plumas-Eureka) is first come, first
served. This web site will tell you about the parks and allow you to check
for availability and make reservations. If you want to go to a park that
this site says is full try calling the park; sometimes the reservation
system is messed up. Unfortunately, many of the very popular campgrounds
fill up fast and early so you have to plan in advance (a lot different from
when we started going 20 years ago).

I will be at the crawdad fest is Isleton,ca on the night of the 16. I have
a res at Brannen island, great place to camp close to you Susan. Next day
off the Crawdad Fest. Come up if you get a chance and we can talk GMC
