Hi! We are newbies and just bought our first GMC! We need to ship it from the east coast to west, and wondered if anyone has any referrals.

P.S. big thank you to everyone who replied to our request for buying tips it was immensely helpful and we found the GMC of our dreams!!!

It is a car. Drive it yourself. Should you experience issues, take it as
an adventure, and call the Black List people.

BTDT the other way round, and I am not a mechanic.

We buy them to drive them, correct? Make an adventure out of it. Coast to
coast in a GMC? We have done it 3 times in our 78 Royale. We are not the
exception, but the rule. Never had a breakdown, yet. There is help all
along the way. This time of the year, use the southernmost route. Winter is
soon upon us, and these things don't like snow one bit. If winter driving
makes you nervous, store the coach back east INDOORS and drive it home next
spring. Just what I would do.!

Actually it is a cult, but a good and benevolent one. Welcome!

Try uship.com. Another GMCer used it and got good service at a very good price. I'm looking to have a GMC towed and the uship quotes were ~1/3 of
what I was quoted over the phone by a couple of tow companies.

Driving from Delaware to Oregon, figure 3000 miles at ~9 mpg => ~$750 in gas, and realistically a week+ of your time.

Your coach, your cash, your call. Whatever you decide I'm sure it'll be the right choice for you.

Welcome to the group, family, cult, asylum......

As you may have already determined, a GMC is more than just a big new toy because it connects you with a community that is very rare. This is a
community of supportive and helping people that is most amazing. Do not be put off by the forwardness you will get.

Speaking of the possible cross country run, if you do not have the full compliment of documentation, it can all be downloaded at [URL="http://gmcmi.com"]gmcmi.com[/url][/url].
Be sure to collect that and the GMC Assist (aka Black's) list. You travel will seldom have you out of range of people that can assist and support
your effort. Even if neither of you is any kind of technician, you want to have these because someone that might assist may need the reference
material. If you are afraid to dive into it, just remember that you have the instructions for just about anything that might need attention. If you
don't like getting greasy, buy disposable gloves. You will probably want to have some anyway for the dumping operation.

Also, before too long, build a sigfile. I see you are working this as e-mail, and I don't know how a sigfile works there. But please do it. It
should contain a real name because we like to know who we are helping, a short about the coach including major mods - there are some significant
variations along the years and models. And finally a geographic location, this is essential so a possible owner that can be of some assistance can
know if you are in striking range.

Now, a final paragraph here is just because the only other community that I know of that is at all like this is that of the watermen that are my
world. Very much for that reason I have taken to welcoming new owners here much as you might be in that world and I think it fits well. So,

May the Good Lord bless this coach and all those that set forth within her.

I have moved a few GMCs for people over the years. East to west, or west to east. I moved one once from Washington to Florida and Utah to Florida.
Two from Michigan to California followed by one from California back to Indiana. Why people keep buying them on the opposite coast is beyond me.

Also they always wait until October thru December and some of the heaters or furnaces do not work. Only had to repair three of them. One heater
hose, One heater control valve and one a bad gas line. It had a cracked fuel line on the input side of the fuel pump. Replaced the hose in a Flying J
parking lot and drove away.

I have not moved any this year. Probably due to the covid stuff.

Ken, are you talking about driving the unit rather than hauling it on a 5th
wheel?
OP did not tell us what the coach's condition is in. How old are the tires
first question followed by does it run?

I'm curious what tools you bring with you to be prepared for adverse events in an unknown GMC. Please elaborate a bit.

Not Ken, but having done this many times as well,
I always take my toolbox with me (includes multimeter, razor knife,
hacksaw blade, full socket and combination wrenches, prybar, ... ) in the
Tracker as well as a full set of belts and hoses, inline and carb fuel
filters, an ignition module, air pressure gauge, digital temperature gun,
the Black List, cell phone and credit card. I always take the Tracker, tow
it along and drive it back home. Since Debbie has retired, we drive as a
team and only go with the understanding that we'll take our time (actually
average more like 300 miles per day) and divert from the direct route to
see points of interest.

I estimate time and expense with google maps, charge by most direct route
at 500 miles per day, overage at my cost. I insist on a refundable
contingency deposit if $1,000. All payable prior to my departure.

This has worked out well for us as well as the buyers as it's much less
expesive than trucking it and always roots out some issues en route.

I estimated driving this very GMC to the San Francisco bay area for a
fellow last July but the deal fell through. Has a center bumper receiver
hitch and recent tires. Ready to go.

Bill, I see the contingency, but what would you charge for 3000 miles?
Having the toad along would help.

I am there to transport the vehicle and not to do major repairs to it. Usually on cross country trips I fly or Amtrak one way so I take Only one tool
bag with common wrenches piers, screw drivers, multi meter, etc. and not much else. If the coach breaks down we will address the problem and fix it
with other items procured locally if necessary. I have never had a problem that required anything other than minor stuff. I am in no hurry so if I
have to wait for a day or two for something, it is no big deal.

Howdy,
I have placed a bid on Uship for your GMC move to Portland. I am allowing for mpg of seven miles per gallon for 3000 @ $3.25 results in apx. $1400
fuel, airfare for two people from Portland (where I live also) at $200 each total $400, misc. tolls and expenses at ~$100-200 so at a minimum I would
be looking at about $2000 in cost, not including meals or extras. I bid a max of $3000 with a min of $2500.

As I am a person who doesn't feel the need to race down the road I like to travel at about 60 mph for 200 - 300 miles a day. This way I don't push
the rig hard and like to go easy.

Please give us an idea about the condition of the GMC. Has it seen any trips recently? How are the mechanicals, brakes, tires, etc.?

Thanks for allowing me to hope for some seat time while I work on getting the wife ready to retire and hit the road with me.

Like Ken Burton and Billy Massey, I to have delivered several GMCs across the country- LA to New York- Boston to San Francisco- Indiana to LA San
Diego to Salem, Ore. Houston to LA.

If you care to know how well the Black List works ask Ken Burton and Chuck Boyd about the transmission replacement at Chucks place in Knoxville.

My wife and I had several great trip on different routes and the owner's got their coaches delivered at the least expensive cost. They even got some
of the bugs worked out along the way at no additional cost.
