Arch,
Isn't that one of the clean air gizmo's? Just another one of those fancy
doo dad's for the government requirements of the 70's. The electric choke
should take care of the engine till it's up to temperature. Just my myth.

Arch,
I have the electric choke on my carb, seems to work ok!

Yes. But it doesn't get cold in Colorado. Here we go again. OK, OK just ignore
that, but I sent it any way. Darren

Arch,
When I had the exhaust manifold shroud off my 455 a couple years ago, it
was badly rusted through in a few places. I started calling around but had
little luck finding a replacement. Anita at Cinnabar did say though that
they did not have a replacement part at the time but were working to
develope something. I ended up getting some thin gage SS and cut and
formed some patches that I pop rivited on. Later some one (possibly on our
net) said that Mondello had replacements for the shroud. I never checked
but my patches seem to be holding OK for now. Good luck with your search.

Well, Rick's got a good point that the warm air will help atomization in
cold climates. Living in Colorado, he should know.

My feelings on this are as follows:

If you have the stock carb setup and run alot in cold weather then the
heat intake air might be the ways to go. If your run time is during warm
weather then the benefits are probably marginal. I plan to add a ram
air type set up and do away with the heated intake air seeing that I
very rarely am out in cold weather with the coach.

Arch,
I bet no one with headers has a preheat shroud for the carburetor air. I
don't.

I now have an electric choke too. My problem is should I try to find the
sheetmetal parts so the exhaust manifold can heat the air going in
the air cleaner snorkel? I would like to have more than a couple of
thoughts before I start through the junkyards. Rick says I need it
and Darren says forget it. I even like both of them----makes the problem
worse.

Take Care

Arch,
The heated air set-up predates attempts at emission control by
many years. I recall it being on Lincolns about 56 or 57. I am
sure that they were interested in smooth operation rather than
any idea of emission control. Thorley even gives you a little
Mickey-Mouse contraption that works. I vote in favor.
