Charles, Brad & Mary, and other Potential Wannabes, (Gonnabes)
I was recently just where you are coming from, (ie: what is with all
these tales of woe and disaster I hear?) Some observations;
1. GMC's come in all degrees of repair / disrepair.
2. Ideally, you should test drive as many as possible. The differences
become apparent relatively quickly.
3. The parts to repair any problems are still available. Indeed, there
are many facilities dedicated exclusively to the GMC.
4. Although I had read / heard much about the "wiggle wagon" effect,
none of the 14 coaches I test drove exhibited this problem.
5. The owner of the coach I bought told me he had enjoyed his GMC for 10
years before he attended a convention and learned about all the things
he should be afraid of.
6. Dave Greenberg has a coach with well over a half a million miles on
it, and he is (as am I) admittedly "mechanically challenged".
7. FWIW, I saw a stretched coach at Buskirk-Rush RV that I was told the
owner had put close to $100,000 into. Can you imagine someone doing that
to an old Winnebago?
8. If you are searching for a coach, I recommend the GMC Motorhome
Marketplace magazine. They have more ads than any other publication and
you can get a free copy by calling (219) 760-7733.
9. I've only attended one rally,(Marion) but I will tell you that the
comraderie amongst GMC owners is very impressive!
10. Bottom line, don't be intimidated. Take your time (like Roger Black)
and find the coach with your name on it. Then we'll see you at Forest
City!
Best of Luck,
