Gary,
I had my '76 PB headliner out last Summer and I can tell you that
there was no 110 VAC prewiring or anything for the 2nd AC in
my coach. With the headliner down there shouldn't be any trouble
running a cable to the location of the A/C however. All that was there
was the 12 VDC for the vent fan.

Of course redoing the headliner is another project itself. One that I
wouldn't take lightly again now that I've done it.

On my 1976 Eleganza-II, I had sigle air, but there was a 110V outlet on the
ceiling just in front of the vent. Turns out that the rear A/C circuit was
dropped in this plug, and it was a simple matter (about 10" or so) to extend
it to the A/C unit.

My coach had 120v wiring on both the front and the rear.... real easy to get
power in the front or the back.

The original brochures for the 1978 coaches mentions that if you don't order
the roof air conditioners factory installed that you can order the wiring
for them; my inference is that is that there's no way to know whether a
particular coach has the wiring except to go look...

Look at "Available Equipment" on
http://gmcmotorhome2.homepage.com/1978%20GMC%20Motorhomes/1978%20Models16.ht
m for "air conditioner prewire."

Look also at
http://gmcmotorhome2.homepage.com/1978%20GMC%20Motorhomes/1978%20Models13.ht
m where you find this mentioned again directly beneath the picture of the
Onan generator, "Speaking of appliances, should you decide to add a
roof-mounted air conditioner after you buy, you'll be happy to know that
available pre-wiring will make installation easier."

Travis...been studying these coaches for a long time; now it's time to buy
one...

Gary,

I have a 76 Eleganza and it was not wired for a rear roof air. I ran a
double 12 gauge wire from the circuit breaker panel because the nearby
outlet was only wired with a double 14 gauge wire. Also if you look on page
23-8 of the GMC parts book Item 6 is a Reinforcement - Roof Air Conditioning
Opening and my coach didn't have it. I had an "H" shape reinforcement made
that matched the front roof air reinforcement, it slide into place, and is
held with large pop rivets.

You may not have to. Chances are that your PB came with the required
bracing in place. If the 110V was not wired originally, you can probably
take a drop off the 110V outlet that is in the front of the AC opening.

On my PB the framing in the rear is that same as the framing in the center
- - but 110V was not present in the rear.
