Searching the GMCNet - here is a better way

Its been often mentioned that the search function on here (the GMCNet) is poor. I agree, it does not have a very good search engine.

However, thanks to the person who setup the link to a Google group, you can use Google's excellent search engine directly on postings in the GMCNet.
I've set it up as a favorite so I can access it easily when I want to search for info here.

Maybe this can be set as a sticky at the top of the page to remind people of this.

Goto:

https://groups.google.com/forum/#!forum/gmcnet-archive

And use the google search engine. Remember though, you cannot post to the GMCNet from there.

Try it, you'll like it!

There has been a link to this archive for many year. But then again, it's
on an old site that is in dire need of a facelift.

It's near the bottom on the left hand side at www.bdub.net. I use it often.

Eugene set it up in 2007 for exactly this purpose.

Also, to find that web page that you know you saw but can't remember where,
you can use

I tried it and I liked it!

I was looking for info on front spoilers. I was certain that I noticed a couple different fibreglass versions out there, had a discussion with a very
knowledgeable member no conclusion available. Used your search "favourite" and found the info I was looking for.

Nice job Bruce!

It would definitely be handy to have it available as a sticky on this page. Looking for a search function at another page becomes somewhat confusing.

I've had my coach for 11 years now and I still forget about the Google Archive of this site for searching.

New owners or those interested in the GMC are not going think to search out another site to find a better way to search this site.

If it was in a sticky at the top of this page then it would be right there for everyone to see and use.

Another way to search this site (or any really) using the power of google...

Type in your search string, for instance, Alcoa Wheels, then add a space and type Site:gmc.mybirdfeeder.net

Google will search for results within than site and only return hits within that site. I use that trick on LOTS of forums, as forum search functions
always stink.

Searching for inf here has always been tough for me. Sometimes I can find what I need, sometimes not.

The search likes keywords, for example.

I posted the "Stormchasers radar map LinK". Note no space between Storm and Chasers.

I use this site to refer to that link, I can come to the GMC site, you don't have to log in.

In the FORUM SEARCH box, upper right, you type in STORMCHASERS and hit ENTER and that message with the links comes up.

Perhaps it may be possible to have a format to make message titles that refers to the subject matter????

I know my search is working because I use it all the time.

Just my thought.
