Here's a repeat of something I posted back in September (nobody ever said
anything bad about the stuff):
I've mentioned here before that I really like PL Adhesives & Sealants from
ChemRex in Shakopee, MN. IIRC both Home Depot & Lowes carry it. It's easy
to spot in its bright yellow tube with black & red stripes top & bottom.
It's a 1-part polyurethane which hardens to a very tough flexible material.
It adheres extremely well to everything I've tried it on except
polyethylene, to which nothing seems to stick. It is paintable but the
factory says let it dry for 7 days before coating with high-volatility
automotive finishes. Clean up -- right away -- is with paint thinner, which
makes it much easier to get a good bead than with silicone.
Its called different names dependent upon its color. White I think they
call Door & Sash Caulk, Black they call Roof & Flashing Sealant, Gray is
something like Grout or Concrete, I know they also have Brown but don't
know what it's called. The factory says it's all the same stuff except for
color.
I've used it to seal around the top and sides of my windshield, filling the
entire gap. Also filled the gap around the "rear door". I'm about to fill
the open vertical seam at the rear fiberglass cap and the joint at the top
of the beltline rail -- all in preparation for the new paint job in October.
If anyone knows anything bad about it I hope they'll speak up before I get
everything I own gooped up with it! NO MORE SILICONE!!!
