Screen Door Poll

Billy
Thanks for mentioning the screen door pole. As you know I have been talking
to Alex Birch about taking on the business. I would like to know what
everyone thinks and how much demand for the product is still there. It will
help greatly in final negociations. It may ultimately decide the fate of
the Albea screen door business. Please go to the poll and fill it out.

Dan,

The Screen Door Poll is at:
http://www.GMCmart.com/poll5.htm

So far:
Only 26% have screen doors
But 76% think they are a good idea.

So Dan ... so far looks like there may still
be a market at a price around $300 or so.

Good Luck on your venture...

You are exactly right. I have posted information on this in the past and
these are my thoughts......
2 years ago when Alex Birch's health prevented him from continuing
the business the Alex Birch screen door sold for $280 plus shipping &
installation. I do not have all the information that I need to be able to
put an exact price on this, however, preliminary studies show that pricing
should not raise much. If I can not produce it and sell it for under $325
(hopefully less than $300) then it would not be done by me.... You will
notice in the poll that there is a question regarding the price that you
might consider IF you were to buy a door at all. Hope this helps.
Your input is appreciated!!!

The site for the poll must have been temporarily down. I just tried it and
it came up O.K. As far as high shipping costs ... Alex Birch shipped
everything next day air... He said it was the cheapest way.
Thanks for your comments

The response to the screen door poll has been great. So far 73 GMCers have
responded. Does anyone have any suggestions for making a better screen
door. A different color has been suggested. What color do you prefer?
How about colors to match the new refrigerators form Norcold or Dometic?
If you have not been to GMC mart to cast your vote here is the address:

When Alex Birch could not continue the screen door business anymore he was
offering the door in one color which was a creamy beige.

Thanks for the suggestions about the alternate shipping methods and the
included exterior door latch. I did check with Alex ..... when he installed
a door the latch was included. As far as the second color I didn't ask how
many colors he offered in the past nor how many different colors he has
tried.

Really strange you should say that. I was going in and out of the GMC today
and said to myself "I wonder if everyone knows what these look like ??

So I just took some pix and tried to upload them to PhotoPoint but they
seem to be down is a strange way. I will post them as soon as they come up.

Dan,
In addition to optional colors and a easy way to access the entrance door and
lock through the screen door, a feature that would be important to me would for
the safety strap to the entrance door still being functional when the screen
door is installed. With the Birch door the strap had to come off (at least in
the case of my coach) and that left the entrance door to swing excessively too
far open.

I think that is others concern also. It was mentioned to me at the Mayo
rally in Colorado.
Thanks for the suggestion
