What is the background on this item:
> Transmission vent, drain hose(vent has burned up several coaches)

We stopped at Jiffy Lube one day and had all fluids changed. An hour
later at a traffic light, a motorist, who was stopped beside us yelled
out, "...you have a fire under your motorhome." We were able to put it
out with a fire extinguisher, before the fire truckes arrived. One of
the firemen said they had more than one incident recently from the same
Jiffy Lube, because one of the kids must have been "topping off" the
transmission fluid, rather than using the dipstick.

Don't take this the wrong way, but....If you are going to drive one you
really need to do the maintenance on it to be sure it is done right. I'd
do everything if I had the room. Chuck

Thanks for your comments on the safety check list Gene and Chuck.

I didn't take it the wrong way Chuck... but
Isn't it sad that we cannot safely take advantage of a Franchised Service
facility on a hot summer's day, when you don't feel like climbing under
the rig? I haven't been back to Jiffy Lube, and now Midas is on my list,
of safety challenged facilities (wrong brakes on a car... and then
they wanted to argue about it. Had to get Bendix to tell them)

I had the ball joints re-done where I purchased my tires. They do alignments
too! The Moog ball joint on the drive side would not take grease. I took it
to Jiffy Lube in Lompoc to get the pressure gun to do it. They did not tell
me it did not take. When I got to my first gas stop there was grease all
over my tow vehicle. You talk about a mess. When I got back I went in and
gave them some good advise on Lubrication with a pressure gun and wiping the
old or new or excessive grease off the fittings. They offered to do it
again. I said what make another mess. A lot of people in line left. That
made my day. The service you get today is poor and ridiculous. I don't know
where the quality went and what they think they are doing to the public in
general. Unfortunately most of the public just sit back and take it too! I
replaced the Moog ball joint and have had no more trouble to speak of. Of
course I have not been on the road for a year. Poor service. I am the one
that has had three 455s in the Eleganza these past months, first one lasted
300 miles, 2nd lasted a bit under 700 miles the first.... Oh it lasted
90,000, before it cracked some rings and the mains let go. That was a
wonderful engine. I had it rebuilt and it should be just as good.
Incidentally that was an original 455 out of the crate from GM. chuck

On my initial problems I approached the Service Manager at Barber Oldsmobile and
requested their assistance. When I got the bill I paid it. No bargainingl! The
motor lasted 300 miles. They were no help when it let go down the road in
Beaver. That work was 6K plus they brokd the windshield, I replaced it with
insurance ($100.00) deductible. Ypu'd think they would pay the deductible, no
way. In Beaver Utah, Anytime said they knew about the GMC and would be glad to do
the job. 5 Months later it was ready to pick up. I paid for a new radiator and
oil cooler. These internal oil coolers have not been available for at least 10
years I found out when I got home that work was about 1K. The intake manifold was
broken here too and that cost me several hundred more plus shipping from Joe in
Paso Robles. When I go the GMC home I took it in to have the thing checked over.
No smog stuff on the engine. I was illegal. I called Anytime up. They had no
clue as to what I was talking about. The water cooler was taken off there too and
replaced with one that I was lucky to get home with. Where was my Cast one? No
body knows. I had to buy another one of those too. I never has quibbled with the
mechanic. I just look at the certificates on the wall to see if he really is what
he says he is. Go for it and pay. Both of these time I felt it mentally and
financially. As far as oil changes go. A guy named Tom Peters, author of the
book, In Search of Excellence was sent to both agencies. I have an abundant
supply of his book and give them out to people who should improve cutomer
relations. After all, all they have is the service to their customers. Right!
