Well - I can clearly see the point depending on what you think the elephant is.. regarding my earlier question.. RV or 26 foot Super-Van..
I have had a chance to wander around a 31ft Airstream RV and it is a pure RV.. It has all the comforts of home and can be docked/parked almost indefinitely anywhere on the planet.. It is, however, a pure 'motorhome' and very probably the best of breed except that it drives like a half full 5 ton septic truck, like every other 'motorhome'..
GMC's, in my opinion, not 'motorhomes' per-say.. They are Super-Vans built around the application of a family of 4 hitting the woods and camping out for a couple of weeks at a location.. It is like everything a Class C should but we aren't tied to the Van chassis and/or facing the limited space.. It's built for people with itchy feet if you will..
In our renovation (which this list soo helped out with) we focused completely on the chassis, un-docked systems (Onan/Water) and drivetrain.. We figured that the real trick is to able to tour unserviced sites as much as possible to 'get away from it all with the family'.. We sleep in the GMC - but we are trying to work it out so we treat it like a small cabin in the woods - that is, do as much outside the GMC as possible..
As incredibly well thought out as the inside on GMC is - it is not anywhere near Airstream in build quality or general walk-around space.. But, driving the Airstream is not nearly as pleasant and it doesn't really do unserviced camping in any meaningful way..
Soo.. want a driving machine that gets you almost anywhere anytime you need to be there without any guff about height, length or weight restrictions.. GMC is the very best.. Want to park in Florida for a month or two in the winter - it's going to get cramped and kinda of unpleasant after a while..
That's my take anyway.. It's why I often wonder why anyone would stretch to 29/30 feet.. At that point - trade in for different application..
Again, any thoughts on how long it should take to get hot water on Generator if everything is peachy with OEM water heater? It would give me some leads on if there is real problem or simply a thermostat adjustment required..
