Guys,

Went to Walmart today to pick up some Rotella 15 W 40 motor oil but saw that the only Rotella they now carry is 15W-40 for Diesel engines. Checked
AutoZone and it is the same.

Can we use diesel engine oil in our GMC's? Or do I need to switch to something else maybe a synthetic?

As far as I know, Rotella IS a diesel oil. It is used in the older gas engines for it's superior film strength and wear reduction qualities

Thanks Carl. I never noticed before and now they have different packaging and "Diesel" caught my eye.

Thanks!

Shell Rotella T4 is CK4 (Compression Ignition) rated and SM (Spark ignition) rated.

That is from memory. I did not look it up to verify the ratings.

Basically it is the same stuff as before meeting a newer CK rating. It is good for gas or diesel engines.

Rotella T5 is semi-synthetic and T6 is full synthetic.
