I just gave my old air conditioner a burial at sea and bought a Dometic 13.5 unit from my trusted, family owned RV supply house. I have installed
these types of units before on my old bus conversion and also my houseboat. The issue with the old one was noise. You could hear it cycle in the
cooling mode from the outside, very loud. Inside it was loud and also had a vibration that eventually subsided when the compressor kicked in.

Bottom line: I didn't how good I had it. I hate this new Dometic. This thing directs the air mostly to the rear of the coach, no what combination of
flaps and dampers you have open/closed. But the worse part is the noise. The neighbors should be happy but it is like trying to sleep with a lawnmower
running in the living area. If that wasn't bad enough, a harmonic THRONG THRONG THRONG (sorry the best I can do to describe the repetitive noise and
vibration) kicks in.

What is the quietest rooftop air conditioner that you all have used. I don't want to throw away $1,000 but this thing is junk. Thanks.

Hey Larry

I have the Coleman Mach 8 heat pump.

It works well. It’s loud, but tolerable on low settings.

A friend found one from Australia - Houghton Belaire 3400. It’s incredibly quiet.

The earlier Mach 8’s had a very loud fan (part number 1472B5041) on top that they have replaced with a quieter one (part number 1472D5041). Worth checking into. There are a lot of pages on the topic on Google.

Well, it is especially challenging to have a totally quiet running air
conditioner on top of what amounts to a huge aluminum beer can. Any
vibration will transmit much amplified harmonics directly below it. Fan
motors that run fast enough to move sufficient air volume to cool the coach
with all that glass volume is a tall order as well. Best we can do, is
place the unit on lots of soft foam, and hope to seal up all the water
leaks. Newer units are somewhat quieter, but are far from silent.
Sometimes, being hard of hearing is a good thing. Look at the decibel
ratings before you buy. Quality sometimes costs more. All I've got from
here.

My Atwood aircommander has ALWAYS been my favorite AC on my coach. Quiet, reliable, Quiet, 3 speeds, Quiet, and it’s also Quiet!!!
My rear is a Coleman mach 8 15k that is loud. The Coleman is a good unit but it is loud..... not just the outside cooling fan, but also when the
compressor kicks on.....
I’m sorry for being a little agitated, but I didn’t sleep that great last night because my Coleman mach 8 hates white people........especially
when they are trying to sleep....
