Roof Lights what to use 4 Sealer ?? ( Dicor or Black Silicone ) ?

Hi everyone, Replace my inside wires & outside front roof leds with LED's

What is best to use to seal the metal & inside ? r ( Dicor or Black Silicone ) ?

I have used both and like the black silicon look, some1 told me black silicon is a great options since it's also has a high heat resistant?

Silicone doesn't hold up well especially on the roof. RTV for gaskets [like permatex ultra black ] will fare better- they are heat resistant
With that, let it set up and then cut the bead to frim to give a more finished appearance

For block sealants I like Vulkem bu tit takes a long time to set

It says Silicone is UV resistant. My experience is it turns to goo after a while if exposed to UV.

The goo does still seal tho.

That is a very good walk though.
I like its specifics.
There are now available products that will remove either silicone or polyurethane materials. They are not skin friendly.

I wonder if he explained the difference between the caulking guns on the last page.
As it happens I know (only after decades of dealing with 4000, 4200 and 5200), so I will try to make a clear answer.
Of the two, the one is stepless and can back off with the release of the grip.
The one under the circle/strike is the ratchet type. It will click along one step at a time. When the grip is released, it may not let the pressure
off the tube.
The cheap ones are often available for 2~3$. The good ones are seldom less than 10$.

That presentation was given at the Coos Bay Rally in 2013, I can't remember what I did yesterday let alone what happened four years
ago. As far as the gun goes you've covered it well.

As far as removers go see below.

Also Steve Southwood found some stuff but once again I can't remember what it was!

In the turbine engine overhaul shop where I work, silicone RTV sealant and silicone filler material is removed simply by soaking in kerosene. The trick is to keep it wet. Removal time depends on thickness, and could take up to 48 hrs to remove on extra thick applications. Best method is to scrape off what you can and then use a chemical stripper to do the rest. Thin silicone residue only takes a few hours to remove with stripper.

You might look to the Marine Industry for a sealant. I used 'Boatlife' LifeCalk Sealant to seal some seams on my GMC. It is polysulfide, not silicon.
