Roof Air Conditioner repair

Some had posted a while back that their roof air wouldn't put out any cool.

I was doing some work in my GMC a couple of days ago and it was over
90 out so I turned on the air conditioner. Worked great. Yesterday,
I went out to finish the job and the air conditioner fan would work
but NO COOL. I pulled the fan wires and left the L1 (hot lead) and
C terminal connected which goes to the thermostat and then to the
compressor. I waited the two minutes for the time delay relay to cut
in but no hum from the compressor, so I pulled off the cover on top
and found that if I put a jumper across the top terminals on the
relay in the center of the electrical box (two large black wires --
now purple with age) the compressor would start and work properly. I
removed the relay and found that there are two contacts, both of
which were corroded and burnt. I used a point file (remember the
days when distributors had points???) and cleaned up the contacts,
put everything back together and it now works fine again.

Something to remember if anyone encounters the same type of problem.
