Another source, I used, is A & G Carburetor, 6136 Roosevelt, Oak Park IL
60304., 708-386-9804. They also specialize in distributor
refurbishment, although told me that they contract that out.
I was thoroughly satisfied with their service.
I sent the carb via UPS on a Monday and received it back from them via
UPS on Friday. I couldn't believe my eyes at how good the exterior of
the carb looked and called them to ask what kind of paint they sprayed
on it. They responded that they have an eight step washer. It looked
brand new.
Prior to sending the card to them, I talked to them over the phone 3-4
times and liked what I heard. I found them in the GMCMM magazine want
ads (they advertised there throughout the middle months of 1996). For
example, they told me that they used a leather accelerator pump to
escape the reformulated gas problems with deterioration of the gaskets,
etc., and include a spare needle, seat and bowl gasket for future use.
Since I had previously stripped the threads in the bottom half of the
carburetor bowl for the filter nut, I had them replace it. They also
replaced the choke pull-off vacuum dashpot. The carb looked brand new
when I got it back.
They told me that all I needed to do after reinstallation was to adjust
the idle mixture screws and the idle speed. However, I've never taken
the time to do so yet - maybe one of these days after I retire in about
2002 or sooner if I get a pink slip.
I've driven the coach about 10,000 miles since then. The only problem
is a tendency for the engine to stall from idle (~1000 rpm) when I put
my foot on the accelerator pedal to drive forwards or backwards, while
the engine is still cold. All I have to do is modulate the peddle a few
times to get going. No problem when the engine is warm.
