As an alternative to Risalone you might try GM TOP ENGINE CLEANER
Pt availeable at any GM dealers parts dept.List price $5.94.
I have used with great results.
Directions
1.Run engine to normal temperature.
2.Remove air cleaner.
3.Increase engine speed and pour about 1/3 of cleaner through
carbureator throat fast,stalling engine.(DO NOT POUR CLEANER AFTER
STALL)
4.turn off ignition.
5.After 15 minutes start engine.
6.At flucuating speeds,SLOWLY pour balance of cleaner through carburetor
throat,rinsing out deposits from combustion area.

This will not delute oil in you crank case.It cleans and restores your
rings.valve train,and lifters.
By the way if you time this procedure with an out break of skeeters the
smoke,5,10,or 15 minutes depending on engine sludge,will git'mal!!!!!

The above two products may work on a different principle... but let me
ask a couple of questions of the group.

I have used products like the above, and Wayne is right you can
hear a difference in a very short time as the solvent frees up whatever
parts are partially stuck. The thing I noticed is, the clattering comes
back more slowly but just as surely. Has anyone else noticed, that in a
few days the same clattering sound is back, and if another can of solvent
is added the clattering goes away again, for a few days. I have tried to
remove the suspended or dissolved sludge by changing the oil while it is
still quiet, but the results have been disappointing.

I would be interested in Jim's and Wayne's (or any other users) comments
on the return of the clattering.

Try adding a quart of ATF to the crank case. ATF is very
high detergent and will flush varnish out of the lifters. Leaving
it in till the next oil change causes no problem.

I sold Wynn's for almost 10 years to dealers and stations...I also had to go
back and see these same people on a regular basis. I never had a problem
with Tuneup (the professional formula). Believe me, if there had been
problems, these guys would have been all over me, because they would have had
to do their work all over again without being paid. Occasionally, some j...
would draw product, not put it in the customers car and take it home for his
own use. But, that's another story.
