Revcon likely for parts

My brother in law thought he found a derelict gmc in richmond VA and talked to the shop owner who got the rv owner to call me...

Well, he was close - it is a 1982 revcon that has been sitting since 1991. The current owner is the son of the man who put in a new engine and passed
away before the project was ever on the road again. Current owner is wondering about the value being in the motor, or parts for the revcon or just
what. I would presume that even if the motor will turn over, or even start, it would need to be refreshed if pulled to go in something else. I do have
some pics, might try to get them up somewhere for viewing...

Anyone know what to do with the shell if we have a "strip it" party?

What kind of shape is the Revcon? There are collectors of those things out
there. Might be worth a Craigslist ask.

The man I got our GMC from in Stuart, Va. said he really wanted a Revcon instead of the GMC. That was 7 years ago, wonder if he ever found one? His
name is David Young, if anybody knows him. Like Jim said, there are many people looking for those RVs.

We have worked on Revcon several times, and parts are hard to come by.
And when we find a part, it is twice as much and some things like the
windshield is really expensive to put in do to the way they were installed.
Unless you have lot of funds to spend, I would let them be crushed.

For the GMC’ers the only thing that would be of value would be the motor if it is a 455 and 425 tranny and not a 454 Chevy which was shifted to in the early 80’s as they also could not get the Olds and 425 transmission. The 454 was mated to a 4WD transmission driving and 4WD front drive train. It was a cobbled together drive train.

This being an 1982 will have no value to the GMC’ers. It would be a pass for us, but the Recon Community would suck it up even if it has been sitting for 25 years. They are an even more orphaned coach than Us. There is or was a parts dealer on the west coast that had a fair number of Revcon Parts.

We have an informal get together every Tuesday at the airport that is open to anyone who chooses to show up. Tonight we had 26 people there when I
left at 6:30 PM. Tonight someone brought in meatloaf dinner for everyone. You never know what food, if any, will be brought in. The attendees are
about 1/2 pilots and 3/4 motorcycle people. There are no rules or agenda. In warmer weather the crowd will be 60 to 70 and almost everyone there is
on a motorcycle. A few will also fly in.

Twice a year we run a tiddler ride around several counties on a weekend. The thing with it is to be there on the smallest bike that you can find.
Anything even Harleys is acceptable down to 50 CC mini-bikes. It usually lasts 4 to 5 hours. That evening we have a large get together somewhere and
everybody brings something to eat or drink. There will usually be 80 to 120 attendees. I missed the last two fall ones because they conflicted with
GMCMI rallies.

One of the things that sometimes happen is people bring things they need to repaired on Tuesday afternoon and evenings. Sometimes it lasts until
midnight but most of the time it usually breaks up around 9 PM. People usually start showing up around 4:30 and they come and go all evening after
that. The attendees are from many backgrounds, an auto mechanic, an FAA IA (authorized inspector), a welder, 2 doctors, one dentist, a mail lady, a
state cop, several commercial pilots, a restaurant chain owner, a foreign car service owner, a steel mill millwright, and me to name a few. I do not
know what I am. I could probably list another 15 or 20 professions. Probably 1/3 of us are retired and the youngest are in their 20's.

We also have a small Sunday morning ride every week. Usually around 8 bikes but you never know who or how many will show up.

John Shotwell showed up and delivered some stuff to my hangar this afternoon. I did not think about 2 wheel Tuesday until after they left or I would
have invited them to attend. We definitely had enough food.

Hey Johnny, one of the many motorcycles I have owned over the years was a
BSA Gold Star 500 cc. What a miserable piece of hardware it was. Big old
single cylinder. You really had to have your wits about you when starting
that beast. If all was not correct, it would kick back and launch a rider
up over the handlebars. Didn't need much for a transmission, just row it
through the gears until you reached the top one, and leave it there.
Amazing torque, must have had all of 25 or 30 horsepower. Weak by today's
standards. 125's put out more power today. Easier to start, too. Memories,
of good times past.

a front rack on your coach and bring it to rally's!
Personally, Im sorta itching to rebuild a old Honda Trail 90 of 70 with the fat tires!

Revcons after 78-79 do not have the Toro drive train. They went to a 454 and transfer case thingy.

Still love to get a look at it.

My 72 sits lonely waiting for me to get some time. I was ready to move it down the road but the family insists we give it a try.

I have 3 in the hangar right now plus my daughter will bring hers over tomorrow. She was riding hers until the most recent below 0 cold weather. She
finally deiced to park it for the winter in my hangar. The one I like the most and usually bring to rallies is a Honda 250 Elite scooter. It is easy
to ride, will do 70, though I seldom go over 55, and fits nicely on my GMC trailer hitch.

Hupy, I swapped the Victor to a friend for a 350 Gold Star and a stack of money. The dealer sold 3 '68 Victor Specials of which mine was one. Each
of the three wanted a different technique to crank.. and it would raise you right back up in the air if you got it wrong. It was a lovely old thumper
though, low end torque for days. Leaked 3 different weights of oil, like an old Harley if there wasn't a puddle under it you needed to add some oil.
It was, however, the only scoot I've owned that would let you plant your heels halfway up the side of the gravel pit and stop, and then goose it and
climb on up from a stop - shooting dirt every time it fires. A replacement would send me looking for a way to haul it and the toad behind my GMC.
These old scoots will make you appreciate a properly working distributor when cranking the GMC.
