After being gone for about a month I am just here to tell you, I am
back. All of you who have sent me mail, I will reply ASAP. I had my wife
download my mail every couple of days while gone, so I have 1498
messages to sort through.
If any one remembers I had talked about temp. problems and my
attempt to fix it. I have a 1980 22' c class with a ford 460 drive
train. It has continuously run very warm. As an experiment to test for a
possible conversion for the GM I installed electric fans and removed the
belt driven fan. I removed the fan shroud and the oem fan and replaced
it with 2 16" electrics. It's actually kind of a cool setup. heh heh.
Over the past month I have really put this configuration through the
paces. Happy? You bet. Temp never went above 170 on the worst climbs.
This is down over 30 deg. from oem on the same climbs in years past.
In doing my research on the conversion I found a couple of products
which are additives for the rad. All the info I found points to too high
a coolant ratio as 1 of the culprits for hot running. The additive I
used recommended a 10 % glychol mix. Actually it said, the closer to
pure water you get the better it will dissipate heat. What the additive
does is to increase the ability of the surfaces in the cooling system to
dissipate heat. Literature claims up to a 15 degree difference. After
what I have seen I believe it. The only draw back to this, is that I
have to change the coolant to a 50% mix by winter or, well you know. I
consider my experiment a great success and will move to the next step
and put electrics on the GM. Nothing like the hum of electric over the
horsepower stealing roar of the belt drive. Bet ya that stirs up some
guys. If more info is requested I can add brand names and manufacturers
and specs. Just let me know. I am sure I could bore you for a while yet.

Nice to be back. Now I have to finish reading my hard drive.
Let's see, I think I am number 17 of 1498.
