Restoring Plastic GMC Hood Letters

Apparently the GMC raised hood letters on our coaches are no longer available. I looked at Applied's website and they don't have them. Since I
recently had my coach painted, I do not want to put my old letters back on. But, I think they can be restored. The M and the C each have one leg
broken off but otherwise they are intact. Problem is the chrome plating looks poor - as though it has worn off and a little pitting.

Looking at YouTube it seems that these can be restored. Has anyone here ever done this or does anyone have a resource they recommend? Since this is
such a small part and small amount of solutions, the toxicity and responsible disposal should not be a problem.

Regards,
Pete P.

Hemmings has many plastic platers listed. Heard some bad stuff on Mr G’s and better stuff on Paul’s Chrome plating. Mine have been off for ten
years waiting for me to send them in. 😆😆

I came across a company called Cosmichrome (www.cosmichrome.com) last year that looks like a very interesting option. I need to get my bumpers done.
Unfortunately the closest shop to me that can apply it is in upstate NY.

Sounds like a job for someone with a scanner and 3D printer....

The Cosmichrome web site says the base coat has to be applied to a "porous surface", but their photo gallery shows lots of chromed vehicle parts...?

Take a picture with a camera a couple of feet away together with a ruler
plastered next to the logo. Send it to me, and I shall try my best to at
least to the digitizing part. The photo should be taken as parallel as
possible to the logo. And one picture taken from the side also with a
ruler in the picture would make sure that one gets the third dimension
correct as well.

I purchased the stainless adhesive emblem like in the first link. Never
installed it as its lack of a third dimension didn’t look good to me.
The second one is nice looking but a bit modern. Does the emblem in the
second link cover the original holes?

Billy,

I saw those two options on the Applied website. But, I don't like the look of the first option (the all stainless one), and although I like the look
of the second option Applied's website says "currently unavailable". If Jim K. knows something different, maybe he can say here. I would purchase
those red letters if they were available. Otherwise, I will look into restoring my originals somehow.

Pete P.

Pete,

I finally found the set of GMC emblems I bought many years ago but never
used. They're visible here:
bit.ly/2MmYyKt
or
https://photos.google.com/share/AF1QipO6I5yx9Gl2jxC8peyVuiCrMzoZxZ3T5N79-IlgEi2cgMwY2-VAEgYT3XKMr4rcTg?key=dXBDQTIxcERqLWFiemFMWGVXdlRqdV9jSS1xb2F3

They're used, but look to me like they'll polish to like-new -- I haven't
tried. The problem is that the mounting studs have been removed from their
back sides; they'll have to be mounted with trim tape or cement or ???.

I've no idea what they're worth; make me an offer if you're interested.
They should fit into a small Flat Rate Priority Mail box or an envelope for
mailing.

Larry,

OK, but since Pete started this search, let's hear from him first before we
negotiate.
