Resonator location

Looking for the most effective place to put the installed inside the pipe auger resonator in a 3" rear muffler system.

Can't use that position as the 2 90s are wielded there but I could put it just before the straight pipe to the rear. Not were it shows in the
picture.

Leave it out. If you get a "Raaaaappppp" sound out the tailpipe, use a
"Racket Buster" tailpipe extension, or a convoluted section in the last 3
or 4 feet of the tailpipe. Both are effective, and cheap and non
restrictive.

Don't like the restriction so I may leave it out and if I have a drone I may try a resonator tube. I will try the exhaust tip first.

Is a resonator required on systems with one muffler at the rear? I had an $80 double wrapped, two year old muffler. Have a seam come apart. That caught my floor on fire. So I put a muffle heat shield in above the two front mufflers. Then installed two 40 series Flow Master, welded mufflers. Very strong. I fine the sound fine. But could use a resonator alittle between 1300 to1500 RPM. But then again. I'm not in that RPM range for any real length of time. Bob Dunahugh 78 Royale 403
 
Bob,
You know if you put on more parts, that can create more issues.
Sound is something that need to be addressed, I know that the single
muffler has that characteristic , so you can consider one. I think Larry
Weidner did something to resolve that issue.
Using cheap mufflers is a poor decision as you never see the condition. We
supply the most robust units so we do not have these issues.

G.M. used exhaust pipes that had unique depressions strategically
positioned around the pipe that performed the duties of mufflers. But, they
had as much restriction as mufflers of the day, and were just as expensive.

Using the "Vibrant 1142 3" Ultra Quiet Resonator" that I got from Amazon, eliminated the undesirable "RAP" that I got from my Flowmaster 70 rear
mounted muffler. That resonator is a straight through no restriction resonator. Three inch that you could see through. Many holes in the center
pipe allowed sound to defuse into the absorbing material in the rest of the case. Ended up being a good fix for me. JWID

the 3" pipe that passes through the holes in the frame is held by silicon donuts in most of the frames. The double frame that supports the bogies does
not have one. My pipe is touching the edge of the hole, am I going to have vibration or noise problems with this? What have others done with 3"
pipes? Not looking forward to removing the pipe if fixing involves grinding the hole bigger.

If you install a flex joint upstream then you can weld a tab to the pipe
and bolt it directly to that xmember if it starts rattling.

Had mine for 14yrs now with pipe touching the frame hole. No vibration noise, at least none that we can hear. Inspection shows no rubbing there
either. Just what I've observed.

Vibration is not a concern as the muffler fits snugly against the frame. We
have installed about 30 of these units with the 3" muffler,

Thanks for the advice. Now for the resonator tube. I was going to wait till I tested to see if I had any resonance but it is easier to weld it in
while it is out on the floor. I have the 3" pipe leftover and research on the net suggests that 32" long is good for eliminating resonance from a V8
at around 2200 rpm. 32" is where the piece of wood is. Thoughts?

You should have taken the two pipes and joined it to 3".
Look at our website and see how we do ours. Your chocking it down.

how the two 2.5 join in to the 3".
Your combining 2.5 to 2.5 from the pic I see.
