Replacement furnace for 78 Eleganza

What is an easy replacement for the 30,000 BTU Duo-Therm in a 78 GMC
Eleganza?
The Duo-Therm is roughly 23" deep, 15" wide, and 14" high.

the Suburban SF30FQ would fit, but it's too wide (17") to just slide in
from the front. Looks like it would have to go in from the side, after
removing the sofa.

Anyone know of an easier one to install?

Ron,

I assume your Duotherm has died. If so, is the solenoid in the gas train
still alive? I need one for my 77 Eleganza.

Gary, I'll let you know after I figure out how to check it.
At the moment, nothing happens when I turn it on. Have 12 volts to the
unit on one of the plug wires, and the furnace fuse is good.
Last time I tried it, something buzzzed or clicked for about 2 seconds,
then nothing. Now, nothing at any time.

Ron,
Pull the wires off one of the terminals and check for continuity
between the terminals. Continuity is good, mine is bad.

Anyone have an answer to the original question (easy replacement for Duotherm furnace). I too am looking to replace a Duotherm furnace in a 78
Eleganza?

My Suburban slides in from the front of the cabinet. To do this, Miguel - or someone - trimmed the bottom and side of the opening a bit. NOt enough
to show - the door still covers everything - but just enough to slide the furnace in and out the front of the cabinet.
Before you do that, check the thermostat if it's the original. I woke freezing my tukus off in Savannah last December. Stat was calling for heat,
but when I touched the contact leaf thefurnace fired up. The contacts has gotten corroded over the years. Put in a new one (mercury container) and
it works fine.

Gary, I haven't forgotten you, I'm still trying to coax some life out of
the beast.
I can't change the furnace, and there's no one around here that I'd trust
to do the job without screwing it up, keeping it for a month, or charging
$$$$$$$$$$. Or probably all of the above.
