I have a 1976 Edgemonte with a dry bath on the drivers side. The shower base leaks due to cracks at the curve where the wall meets the floor. I was wondering what material the shower is made of and how to repair the cracks?

Fiberglass id imagine. Standard fiberglass repair techniques would apply or
simply obtain a replacement from a parts coach.

If it is cracked [as opposed to broken with pieces missing] heer is what I used to do on used coaches.

Drill out the ends of rthe cracks with 1/8 sharp bit. Score the crack with an sharp awl or probe.
Wipe down with solvent

Find a good quality marine epoxy in white. Mix 50 / 50 and let set up a bit. Apply a small ammout to the length of the crack
Smooth it into the crack and holes with a finger wet with spit. Kent [Speedy 500 was a good solvent to use but cant seem to find it anymore]
After it hardens you can sand and paint with appliance epoxy paint. You mayu need to blend beighe and white to get the tone to match

If you can access the backside easily use the marine epoxy and a layer of fiberglass cloth or mat to reinforce

Be careful with the solvent you use, acetone will dissolve the plastic. The shower and that bath module are not fiberglass.

The dry bath enclosure in my 77 royale and 77 eleganza wet bath enclosure
are fiberglass.

I used to have a 78 Palm Beach and it was fiberglass, I was somewhat surprised when I noticed that the dry bath in our new 77 GMC rear twin with a dry
bath that the bath module is plastic similar to the interior cab caps. I think is something that is peculiar to this floor plan.
The coachman dry baths are made by Coachman and I have never really examined one, they probably are fiberglass.
I am wondering if GM was experimenting with vacuforming plastics.

Fridgidaire (GM) vacuformed the interiors of refridgerators in the early 70's. Low waste process. Mistakes and trim get ground up to try again.

It seems like bath materials must have changed on the coaches depending on the model. I got access to the back side of the shower and it appears to be the vacuum formed plastic. The material is thin and smooth on both sides. There is no fiber in the plastic unlike the generator compartment and wheel wells.

I just got the GMC in October. This site has been an amazing wealth of information in letting me make repairs. This was my first posting and the help is much appreciated.

Thank you,

Eric,

I just now noticed that you are new here.

Welcome to the group, family, cult, asylum.....

First, let me apprise you of a important situation. This is a group of people that all have a very serious agenda. That agenda is to see to it that
you get to enjoy both having a GMC and what that coach can do for you. So, Hang On...

You will quickly learn that the coach is not just a new an interesting toy, but it has made you a member of a very special group. This is an amazing
collection of helping and supportive people. The only way you can get on the bad side is to ignore them when they are trying to help you. Things
like, your location says "Chi" (you can go back in and fix that) but if that is Chicago, you have at least an half a dozen local experts that may show
up any time they think you might need assistance. That is just the beginning.

If it is Chicago, plan on attending the GMCMI Fall Convention in Amana. Do what ever you have to do to get there. It will be time and money very
well spent.

About all that. As you are running the e-mail side, you can't build a specific sigfile here, but you may be able to in your mail server. That should
have your name (you did that), a short about the coach (you were good enough to supply that in the first, but it needs to be in all) and that should
include any major mods. And a usable geographic location, I was not kidding about there being help available and they need to know if they are in
striking range. This will make easier for both you and us.

While I am not the official welcome person, I do like to make a special welcome. This group is so special and so much like the waternen of my world,
that I have taken to passing a welcome that I feel is fitting. It is a paraphrase of that used to welcome a new owner or vessel. So,

May the Good Lord bless this coach and all those that set forth within her.

Welcome Eric.

Matt
