Thanks for the reply. Mine has something that
puzzles me. Up next to the windshield mine has
some screws AND some pop-rivets. Was yours'
that way? Also I found a heatsink with two big
transistors behind the glove box next to the
fuse block. It has a cable with 2 green, 2 blue,
and 2 yellow wires in it. It's plug is not connected
to anything. Did you have something like that?
DASH:
The dash in the 73 is made from a number pieces
of plastic.
The top of the dash up by the windshield is 2 pieces
and it is both the visible surface and the top of
the defroster duct which is one piece below.
The front of the defroster duct is attached to the dash
with pop rivets.
If your coach has seen much sun then the dash is not
likely to be very solid when taken apart. To remove
the dash from the vehicle it is best that the screws
only be removed.
Removal of the pop rivets prior to getting the dash
to the bench may make the dash even flimsier than
with the pop rivets installed.
Be careful when removing the dash, especially with
the drivers side. When installed, the metal gauge
area of the dashboard provided some stifness.
During removal there is not much structure to the
plastic on that side.
Any cracks or weaknesses that have developed
over the years are sure to show themselves.
GM had problems with the plastic where the screws
went through to attach the dash. They commented
on it in the service bulletins.
I think they should have used metal stiffeners along
the edges. During repair of the dash in my GMC I
made metal strips for the screws to go through where
the dash attaches under the windshield. I also used a
metal strip underneith the defroster plastic so that the
sandwich of plastic became strong and stiff.
I used similar metal strips for the dash attachments at
the floor. Ditto for the sidepanels.
Lots of work but it is all better now.
HEATSINK WITH TRANSISTORS
Although I didn't have this item it sounds like a left
over power amplifier from a past stereo.
