Good morning,
A few weeks ago I posted on removing my front headliner and got it out easily, in 3 pieces. I was removing it to put in backer boards to screws my outside fiberglsass sun visor to since the front screws pulled out. I swear it looked like it was put down with plumbers putty to fill gaps other than it was a little elastic, but it melted with mineral spirits like plumbers putty and the yellow color. Has any one installed one with plumbers putty or something else. I hate to use anything real super strong because they have to come off to replace windshields and this putty was bad enough. By the way has anyone got Jim Bounds latest email, maybe he has put on a few, I think he put this one on originally.
By the way I'm replacing the headliner with a new one I'm picking up Wednesday from Sirrum GMC.
Thanks,

Try some butyl tape
Trim squeeze-out with plastic scraper, pick up with small ball of butyl
Some tightly mask area first
Use rag dampened with mineral spirits or diesel to wipe if necessary, of course followed by a wash and rinse

When visors are put on with 3M 4200/5200, which is what I think the instructions recommend, they're there for good. I know of a visor coming loose when it wasn't attached like it was supposed to be. They used latex acrylic caulk and sheet metal screws and it didn't last long.

If my headliner was already out I'd add some blocking/backing for the screws and put in threaded inserts. Then you're only relying on the stickum for weatherproofing and not structural strength.

Richard, I did that exact thing when I mounted my visor. I used firewall pass through gromets behind the visor where each screw entered the roof to seal and protect the surface. Easy on and off.

Without a decent adhesive, the screw locations will be major stress concentration points. Not only for the threads gripping into the coach (which your backers will obviously help a lot) but also where the heads clamp the visor down. With all the headwind flutter over the span of many years, I would expect cracking around the heads unless a good adhesive helps spread the loading out.

I had to pull one off to do windshields. I'm pretty sure it was on there with 3M 5200. It was really tough to get off, but I was able to do it with one of those wire/t-handle windshield removal tools and lots of elbow grease. I also sprayed the wire with something that helps it saw without feeling so sticky--I can't remember what. Doing it dry wasn't working well though. I think if I put it back, I'd use 3M 4200.

It came off my Glenbrook and I never put it back on. I think I might reinstall it on my Palm Beach, as I do kinda like them. But, I'll wait until my windshields and full-height sliding windows are done.
