My 75 Palm Beach came with a recirculating toilet, and the PO left several
packets of chemicals. I love the idea of conserving water. As long as you dump
it once in a while and add a packet to the water, I haven't really had any
problems. Also, you don't have to carry a lot of water down the road, just to
have some to flush. My thoughts - maybe not yours....

I seem to get in trouble when I talk about why we got rid of our
recirculating toilet. I know there are a number of people out there
that have this type of toilet and really like them. I don't want to
offend anyone when I talk about our old recirculating toilet in a
negative manner. The problem with it was that it just didn't work
out for us. The old toilet was very good at conserving water, but.....

What we didn't like was:
1. It was almost 25 years old and my wife had a problem with
that. She felt uncomfortable using another person's very
old toilet.
2. The toilet was plastic and the seat and seat cover seemed
kind of cheap. The toilet seat and seat cover also had a few
tiny cracks. The new one is ceramic and is similar to what
you would have in your home.
3. The color of the bowl was black (apparently so that you
would not know that the stuff being recirculated was brown
with a blue tint). My wife hated that. The new one is white.
4. The toilet never seemed clean. I spent a lot of time scrubbing
it, but it still looked dirty. After all 24 years of use does take its
toll. The new toilet is easy to clean.
5. We had odor problems which probably were caused by a
crack in the holding tank and by leaky controls on the gas stove
top , but we won't know for sure because we got rid of the old toilet
and the holding tank at about the same time.
6. The PO (who owned the coach for 18 years) told us that
they never used the toilet for BMs because they didn't like the
resulting recirculated liquid. So we tended to follow that advice
which kind of restricted our toilet activities. Now we use the
toilet for everything that you would expect to use a RV toilet for.
7. My wife hated the idea of continuously recirculating a few days
worth of the family waste materials. Now that's all in the hidden tank.
8. It ended up being expensive to operate as we had to use triple
the amount of holding tank deodorant that we use now. Before we
had to charge the coach holding tank with one charge and two
charges for the toilet. Now we just put a single dose of deodorant in the
holding tank.
9. Winterizing was more complicated as we had to put additional
antifreeze in the holding tank of the toilet.
10. There is no way to see visually how full the coach holding tank
is with a recirculating toilet. Also, you can't stick anything down into
the coach's holding tank for spray cleaning.

So when we added all the plus and minus features of the OEM
recirculating toilet it was an easy choice. Now on the other hand,
a brand new recirculating toilet might be nice.

So as with most things on the GMC, the type of toilet is a personal one
and just because I didn't care the recirculating toilet, doesn't mean they
are a bad thing.

Now I will admit that most of the problems that we had with the
OEM recirculating toilet were related to its age and not the concept.

I really like the new toilet as compared to the old one.
