I may regret this offer, but being still a little bit in the security
business, if there is a particular brand rear vision system that a group
of you might want, I am willing to set up a group purchase from one of
my wholesale suppliers. I will check with a couple of my old line
contacts and see what is available and the pricing

Looking in a catalog that I have a B&W camera, waterproof 1/3" ccd is
$120, and a color one is $230. Let me know if there is a particular
brand - Sony, Audivox or similar and I can check on pricing.

Looking at another supplier that has a B&W system for $300.00. 7"
monitor, weatherproof camera, and the ability to add a 2nd camera for
$99. Also a color system for $460, 7" color monitor, 1 color camera,
extra camera $199.00. Comes with cable, mounting hardware etc.

If there are any other suggestions let me know.

Marcus:

Videoman is another brand with a B&W camera and either a 5" or 7" B&W
monitor. Damark price for that system is $252 and $333, respectively.

Thanks Marcus

I'm really interested in a system with a flat panel LCD display. They take
up less room and use less power than a CRT. I imagine they're more
expensive though. Especially the backlit ones that would be brighter. I
like color but it's probably beyond my budget.

See what's available through your sources.

I'm not real picky about brand names as long as it does it's job.

As another interesting piece of information, I have just become aware of a
system coming to market similar to rear vision. My understanding is, it is
all weather, lower cost, but not video. The system will tell you distance
to objects via other sensors. If this is interesting to anybody I will try
to get more information.

Always wondered if a Depth finder would work mounted front or rear of a
vehicle. Also, hear it fully supports scrambling of radar beams coming into
range. Any truth to this myth?

Marcus, thanks for taking on this project. (When will he ever learn?)

I would like a color rear view camera and a flat plasma monitor with a
minimum of 17" so I can easily see it from my cockpit at 80 mph and use
it to watch Florida beat all comers all at the same time.

(Seriously) Alex Sirum has built a stretch with no rear window so I would
think this camera would be really useful.

I don't know about your depth finder myth, but this system I think works on
radar and ultrasonic, or something like that. The point is, I am told it
is real accurate, you just don't get a video picture.
