For those interested in rear view TV, you might like to consider the system
that a couple of the owners around here have installed in their GMCs. They
purchased a 5" B/W TV from Radio Shack, bolted it up to the rear view
mirror fitting, purchased the camera from COSTCO from part of a personal
security setup that they sell, mirror reversed the image feeding into the
back of the TV, installed the camera on the inside at the back window.
Great setup, crisp image, total cost about $200Cdn or $124US.
For something a little slicker, you might like to look at the Nevada
Systems site (nvsystems.com/monitors.htm). They have 5 or 6 inch color LCD
monitors for $350-$450US. They also have a nice range of cameras. The
problem with this system is to find a way to mirror the image as it is much
tougher to muck around with the LCD monitor. Color security cameras that do
the mirroring are a little on the pricey side.
The latter system is much more attractive to me. The other option is to run
the image through a computer/video setup. The ATI card does a nice job of
this (as in Heinz's system). The problem here is to find a camera that will
work for you and to mirror the image.
