Rear control arm material

Emery, what do the wheel hub motor assemblies weigh? If you could fit them on the existing bogire without a lot of grief, you'd have pretty much free
rein as to where the engine went. For weight control, I wouldn't mess with batteries, run it like a locomotive. And just blush about the unsprung
weight.

If you replace the steel wheel with an 18 inch aluminum one you'd reduce some of the unsprung weight. Again, a diesel engine and generator up front,
skip the battery weight. There was an outfit in Texas, Fort Worth I think, which made power systems for the Navy's riverine boats. A big engine
driven alternator, rectifier pack, and 60Hz inverter. They ought to scale up. I put one set in a promotions van, 350 Econoline. We got 5 or 6KW AC
out of it at 1900 engine RPM (Don't remember the pulley sizes but nit as great as a 2:1 step up).
The concern is how much change would be required to fit 18 inch wheels in place of the current 16s and how would this affect handling. Interesting
concept.

Johnny,
An engine driving a DC generator would get you moving, but I'm not sure you would gain any MPG as the generator/controller/motor losses would likely
add up to approach normal drivetrain losses.

Adding a battery pack would allow you to use a smaller engine-generator set and take advantage of braking regeneration. The battery pack can then fill
in for the lack of engine power when needed.

I suspect payback time, if any, would approach infinity.

I am pretty sure that ROI is rarely on the mind of anyone that is as
crazy when it comes to getting things done, as Hal S. is :-D

Jesse,
I haven't looked at anything recently that got me so excited as these Ferox guys.
As has already been mentioned, the devil is in the details.
They talk about pressures but not flow rates and that's where I would be concerned.
If I could order six hub drives from these guys and start working out the rest of the issues I would in a heartbeat.
Best would be if I were 20 years younger and 200% richer though. Sigh.
