In talking with Dale, there were two "backfire like sounds and the cab filled with smoke"
The coach had a fuel injected Cadillac engine. Dale did not remember shutting off the ignition as he bailed and is still thinking that the fuel pumps
may have been running after the initial fire started.
Personally, I doubt that very much. Even if you did not have a no-oil-pressure or other control on the fuel pumps, I believe that the fusible link
was gone early in the event. Even so, this makes a very good reason to have a "engine running" control on any electric fuel pump.
