How much bottom clearance is necessary to pull the radiator on the GMC?
I've got everything off mine except the shroud and water hoses. I can
see some evidence of corrosion on the bottom and I'm beginning to think
"might as well".

I just pulled my radiator. It was a piece of cake. First I dropped the
condensor brackets and pulled it up with a bungie cord. I removed the 4 top
bracket bolts and left the bracket in place. Dropping the fan shroud is not
needed since it won't move anyway. After you remove all the hoses and lines,
lift the rad up on the bottom with a pry bar. It's heavy but it's only
sitting in the saddles. Snake the rad out the front. No sweat (xcpt for the
humidity) I had it cleaned & repaired for $40. The only hang up was the
cooler lines. Plan on cutting them up close and then use a compression
fitting repair. Going back in wasn't that bad (xcept for the rain). The
cooler fittings will want to hang up and it is a little as you go back but I
did it alone....

Yet another "brilliant" suggestion.....I can't take credit for this
but can't remember who to pass it off on.......
Anyway it goes like this:
Measure up a reasonable distance from the bottom on both sides of the
rad. ...cut the rad support with a cut-off tool or grinder on both
sides. The rad should then drop out easily. Take the cut off piece of
lower rad support and, holding it in place mark above and below the
cut where you can weld or bolt "L" brackets. When these 4 "L"
brackets are in place(long side of the "L" against the rad support)
you are going to drill a hole through both short sections of the"L"
so that when you put a bolt through, which will hold the bottom of
the rad support and untimately the rad in place, they will line up!
Lord, what I wouldn't do for a pencil right now................... If
you have some idea what I'm trying to say: great......if you follow
me to a point and need more info., don't be afraid to ask......of
course the option remains of simply shaking your head and"accidently"
hitting........................ DELETE
