I have been advised to NOT install radial tires on my '74 GMC since I am
running, what I believe to be, the original wheels. My local installer says
that I SHOULD install radials - I read on the list that I should NOT. I need
to get new tires installed before we leave for Forest City.

I checked tonight and I am the GMC currently has Michelin Radials that came
on the coach.

Someone else said that I may have radial rims on my GMC - how do I tell the
difference?

Not sure what to do.

Radial wheels are marked as RADIAL, for just this reason... I would
caution you to check this out completely and see the Radial Notation
on all the wheels. The original wheels were separating because of the
more severe side to side stresses put on them by the radials. The
first symptom of trouble was constant slow leaks not solved by
changing valves.

Take off one of the tires complete with rim and take it to any good tire shop.
They will clean off the inside of the rim and read the numbers. They can then
tell you if you have radial or bi rims. If the rims are not radial, DON'T
mount radial tires on them. It's a good chance that a previous owner may have
changed over. My 75 PB had original wheels and bad (dry-rotted) tires. I
understood this at the time of purchase and planned to buy Alcoas first thing.
A guy with a small dump truck bought my old rims and tires for $25 each and was
happy, happy. So, don't throw away what you have, someone will love to have it.
