Radial rims

It has been said here many times not to put radial tires on non radial
wheels/rims. My question is why not? Etrailer doesn't seem to support
that theory.

The radial tires put out lot of side pressure on the rim bead and cause it
to fatigue.
Your more than welcome to use on radials ad take your chances as you'll
have so air leak before it breaks .

Mike,

E-trailer has not been around for 45 years.....
Try it if you want, but be sure you have a good spare.
When you take it to the Canadian tire for repair, be ready for them to be confused. The tire will not leak. The rim about where the spider is welded
to it will be leaking thought the crack.

Mike, anyone who owns a GMC and drives it through/to Canada would surely
spend a few dollars at Canadian tire.

Lots of reasons and yes, we just about next door. Where we used to live, I could row to Canada and not be out of breath.
Mary has Family in Ottowa, London Port Stanley.

I am hoping to come bother you some year soon. I want Mary to see the Maritimes. I loved the Bras d'Or.

I live 275 miles from the closest spot in Canada (Windsor), but my last set of Micheline tires on my Blazer came from Crappy Tire in Alberta.

Rate of exchange, and refund of the GST at the border was a factor. Also I ran a piece of steel through one and they all needed to be replaced
anyway.

The Alcoa wheels were recalled because they were forged incorrectly. The forging process may have induced stresses in the forging. The condition may lead to cracks developing over a period of time. The stresses in the forging could cause cracks in the bead seat or disc/rim area of the wheel, leading to air loss from the tire. This is NOT caused by running a radial tire on the rim!

I have had 2 complete sets (7rims) replaced on 2 coaches. One set under the early recall and on set on the last recall. They paid all cost to have them replaced.

I had a '62 Dodge Polara convertible on which I put a set of Michelins. Every time you did a hard corner, the rims would flex and molt hubcaps. I
had to get aftermarket wheels.

The old bias ply tires would break traction and scrub off forces and loads
(speed, too) long before there was sufficient loading to flex the wheel
enough to shed hubcaps.
Radials? They stay in contact with road surfaces so much better, that
wheels flexed enough to break around the lugnuts and where the wheel center
was joined to the rim. Manufacturers all went to much more robust wheels
after they figured what was happening. But, I don't know if people drive
GMC's as aggressively as Johnny, and nut cases like me, to ever have that
problem. But, most everything is possible I guess. Be on the safe side. Use
radial rated wheels.

Note, that was a Dodge Polara convertible, not a GMC. I suspect the GMC would do the same, I'd be interested in someone else's results from hard
cornering. I rather keep the groceries in the cabinet....
