A couple of years ago I had FR-12 (Frigic?) put in and it's worked just like
the OEM system i.e. not enough air flow to cope with 100 degree Texas
summers but ok up to about that temperature. Has anyone come up with a way
to increase the air flow? I'd sure like to find a faster turning fan motor
or a more efficient bird cage. Jim Anstett probably has the only solution.

Having done a number of them I'll stick my neck out and offer my
opinions.
I've found that if you replace your reciever/dryer, drain the old oil
out of your A6 compressor, blow out the evaporator and condensor and lines
with Coleman white gas (alcohol won't work and the solvents they sell you
are VERY expensive and don't work any better)(becarefull, gas explodes),
replace only those black 'O' rings you open with blue 'O' rings, you can
then charge your system with ester oil and R134.
To those who disagree. Yes I know, don't yell at me, this isn't supposed
to work but it does. Ester oil isn't that corrosive to the rest of the old
'O' rings, so they will work for years(many years, I know of a friends car I
did at least 8 years ago), and I know of shops who have very good luck with
ONLY draining the oil out of the compressor and then charging ester oil and
R134. I know of a shop that's been doing this since the early 90's and he
says no problems so far. And just to let you know, I have a NIASE Master
Mechanics Air Conditioning Certification from 1978. This program is now
called ASME.
I've been using propane and butane mixes, lower head pressures and
greater effiency, but a pain to do. I'm going to try a prepackaged
hydrocarbon mix called Duracool. I'll let youall know how it works.
But don't blame me if it doesn't work. I recommend R12 to the uninitiated,
