Has anyone converted their dash air to 134A? The PO pulled the AC
compressor out when the heads were serviced a couple of years ago. So I
have the opportunity to rework the system completely while I am refurbing my
coach.

A buddy of mine changed over his pick-up truck to 134A without too much
hassle a couple of years ago. His workmanship apparently was less than good
because he was without AC during the warm spell we had last week. I am not
looking to him for much advice (grin). I usually can depend on the Net to
steer me in the right direction. Anyone interested in sharing their
experience?.

TIA

I went to 134a two years ago.=20
Took my old hose assemblies to Granberry, they used the old fittings to ma=
ke up new assemblies.
I also replaced the compressor ( new,has no oil in it )
The pulley is of different size, so you will have to change the belt size=
=2E It is important that you replace the expansion valve, while doing tha=
t you'll have the opportunity to replace the foam door seals. The 134a wi=
ll make your engine run hotter (arizona heat). I had to install an extern=
al thermostatically controlled electric aux.fan in front of my radiator. =
So far so good.

Just as a tangential follow-on, for those who may have
converted to R-134a, have you added (or do you know
about/have experience with) a product call "Qwikboost"?

Those of you who may receive "NASA Tech Briefs" may
have received the "Technology Horizons" supplement
from the Air Force Research Laboratory and read an
article from the Propulsion Directorate at Wright-
Patterson that describes "Qwikboost" as an additive to R-
134a refrigeration systems that helps to make up for the
reduced cooling effect when switching from R-12. The
article describes a number of benefits, and I was
wondering if anyone had any impressions of it in real life.
(Would/could really be "cool" here in 105-degree summer
heat.) The product appears to be available on the
commercial market.

Anybody know any more about this stuff?

More information is available at http://www.afrl.af.mil
Reference document PR-99-06, or if anybody is
interested, I can send you a copy of the article.

I lost my compressor last year. When I got home I went to my "excellent" shop
and they redid it all. When I asked them if they were going to put in 134 he
said no. It doesn't cool as well and my system will run great with the new
compressor. It is running great and I see no need to convert. I know that you
have to change lots of things, as the nature of the 134 makes the conversion
less than simple.
