Heinz this has nothing to do with a Genset. But want to give you some
history about where you are. My GR. GR. GR. GR. Grandfather Christian Bohna
was the first white man to build a house in Bakersfield.
During the time he lived there they had a great flood, he went to bed with
the Kern River a few miles from him on one side of his house and got up the
next morning with the river on the other side. The water dammed up in the
mountians and when it broke loose the river took a different direction.

24 hours at a stretch and many times usually several days. Using my current
"camping " spot as an example, it gets cranked up about 8am and turned off
at midnight, if lucky (as in if if it gets cool enough outside). Last few
days it's been on almost all 24.

I have been using Mobile-1 15W50 in my Onan for the last 2000 hours. I use
it because of its high-temp stability. I typically change it at 50-100 hour
intervals. So far, its been great. I have been lucky enough to never have
had the engine apart so I don't know what it looks like inside. But a
couple years ago my flywheel came loose and damaged the timing cover. When
I removed the timing cover, it was so clean that it looked like it had
never been run. No sludge or residue.

Yes, I do use mine for many days at a stretch during the summer.

My opinion is that its OK to start using high performance oils any time
after the engine has broken in enough that your oil consumption has
stabilized.

Thanks Dave,
I went for it:: 5/50 Castrol at 440 hours, same as in the GMC. Back to
carrying just one type oil again :-)

Heinz
Still sweatin' it out in Bakersfield (and still no time to "play" :-).
