Paul,
I suppose they must have some kind of disclaimer. I have been using
Schedule 40 pvc in my shop for 26 years now and have never had so much
as a leak. I usually run about 130 lbs of air pressure. My compressor
has always been outside and I keep all of the exterior plumbing copper,
then pvc for the interior.
It sure has worked well for me!

IIRC Schedule 40 is rated at 400 psi, Schedule 80 is rated at 800....but
then, I could be wrong.....

Ron,

I think you're wrong. IIRC, the working pressure of sch. 40 is 120psi
with a burst pressure of 250psi. I know the working pressure is printed on
the pipe - don't know if the burst pressure is or not.

I guess we both are right, sort of....The working pressure depends on the size
of the pipe. With the small sizes, the 3/4" schedule 40 size we ran on yachts
is rated at 480 psi and it drops from there. Schedule 80 is rated at 600 psi.
We also ran CPVC which has similar pressure ratings but is less susceptible to
hot temperatures, IIRC.

Schedule 40 and 80 is the wall thickness rating, does not indicate
pressure rating but is a factor in calculation the burst pressure. When
I looked at my piping books most schedule 40 pvc is rated at a working
pressure 130 to 150 # but that again is tied to the OD of the pipe.
You will find the working and max pressure stenciled on the pipe.
