Happy holidays all....

A question for you all is has anybody ever built a pull behind trailer for our GMC's that used the same steel wheels as on the coach? I have a couple
of mopeds that I want to trailer behind the GMC and I figured that I may as well build something that looks really good to trailer them in. Something
that would provide some additional storage as well would be really welcomed. I was wondering about using a drop axle, which drop axle, what spindles
would I need, etc. Just thought I would ask before spending too much research time on the topic if this is something that has been well thought out in
the past. Oh and I love the original steel wheels for their look so this is an integral part of the build...Thanks all...

Rich, several people have made trailers out of 'parts coach' GMCs. Shouldn't be terribly hard to do, if you are comfortable doing body work and can
find a 'junker' close by.

What is important in designing the trailer is considering the Dynamic of
the angle of the at the hitch is going to be.
A short trailer will be more critical as a 3" drop or rise will cause a
change in acceleration of the trailer and will jerk and one will feel it
going down the road.
Yes, there are hitch adapters that are there to overcome that, but I feel
it is easier to not have to kick around an adapter that is not readily
available.
We have towed ALL type and been to seminars at various trailer supply mfg.
as we sell them and experience.
Even towing a car, the same applies, if the tow bar is at an angle, you'll
feel that jerk more.

Jim, are you referring to the angle of the tow bar relative to the
horizontal?

I sometimes tow a homemade car trailer with a Jeep on it:

The GMC tows it without issue.

I'm sure you can buy an 8 on 6-1/2 pattern axle with the right width for the stock drop center wheels as a foundation for your trailer build. Here is

Jim, The trailer I built the car trailer out of (an old Shult travel trailer) had electric brakes on it. I just used them and added a Tekonsha
electric r\brake controller to whatever vehicle I used to tow it, including the GMC.

I built that trailer when I was about 18 in my dad's back yard.

Matt,

I should be able to, either way. The original trailer I used the frame and axles from was a 1947, and I built it in 1974. It should qualify. ;)
