Does anyone have an idea of the prices for the various years and models of GMC
motorhomes when they were new? I suspect they would have been fairly expensive
given the construction and design features. How did their price compare with
other similar units available at the same time?

Inquiring minds want to know...................... Thanks for the info.

Ralph

There is a 1973 GMC catalog with option prices (1973) at
gmcmotorhomes.com/catalog/page13.html. I can't find it right now, but I
have also seen a price list for each floor plan option. There is also
mention of motor homes selling for $35,000 to $40,000 at gmcmi.com/history.
Hope this helps - will let you know if I find the other price list.

Does anyone know a better inflation multiplication factor (present
value) for 1973-1978 dollars to get the equivalent in 1998 dollars other
than what I could come up with? What I got is as of Mar of each of the
years: 1973 - 3.072; 1974 - 2.987; 1975 - 2.717; 1976 - 2.504; 1977 -
2.294; and 1978 - 2.130.

For example, a 1974 26' Sequoia priced at $15827 times (x) the 1974
factor (2.987) equals $47245.38.

My employer(an insurance company) uses the E. H. Boeckh indicies. The
factors for "General Machinery"(closest category I have) are:

1973 3.48
1974 2.93
1975 2.48
1976 2.33
1977 2.19
1978 2.04

This seems to validate your factors.

I have a 1978 Eleganza and just happen to have the factory invoice dated
3-22-78! So as far as the
78 is concerned this is exactly correct. In 1978 1,879 were built, mine was
number
1,137 or very near the end. I've heard that in 1973 you could get one for
about
$14,000. But maybe some other owners can be more exact. If this is true they
almost
tripled in price in 5 years!

Retail Dealer
Base Price $33,400.00 $27,413.14
With options $40,622.00 $33,339.24

Some of the bigger options at retail
Generator 2,180
Radio am/fm stereo 403
Vacuum 260
Water purifier 190 (now avail at sam's for $20)
Overhead cabinets (front) 190
Sliding front windows 190 each
Spare tire 129
The infamous kitchen clock $30
Wheel covers (7) $91
My floor plan is two bucket swivel chairs behind driver
and Couch/Bunk behind passenger with rear dinette
Flexsteel (2) swivel chair option $300 over davenport
Front davenport (now called a couch) was -$100 (less than dinette)
Cruise $129
Little front table by driver (on pole) $75
AC Twin Roof Mount (I have 2 factory airs) $1100
