This is sort of a late announcement due to my one-handedness: I'm planning
to hold a rally at my aunt's farm in Schley County, GA (12 miles west of my
home in Americus) immediately before the FMCA Convention in Perry, GA.
That convention begins on 15 March, so the official start of our rally will
be 13 March, but early arrivals will be welcome.

For those who don't know, the farm is a 250 acre recreational area --
mostly tree'd, with two fishing ponds, one for catfish only and the other
full of bream and bass. There are roads for walking/riding, and not much
else. There's a garage for the tractor, John Deere Gator, and other
vehicles, which has a toilet and supports 3 full hookup RV sites. All
other parking will be pure dry camping, but there's lots of room -- enough
for 100 GMC's if I manage to mow that much. :-)

This area has a few sights to see, including, 9 miles south, Plains, GA
with Jimmy Carter and all the associated hoopla. About the same distance
away is Andersonville, with the infamous prison camp and cemetery from the
War Between the States. The National POW Museum there is worth visiting.
About 50 miles away is Ft. Benning, with the National Infantry Museum, a
GREAT place to visit. A couple of miles up the road from there is what has
a new name, but I still know as the Confederate Naval Museum, with relics
recovered from the Chattahoochee River (out back). It's a VERY interesting
place. Americus has a lot of old buildings & home dating from the 1890's,
plus the International Headquarters of Habitat for Humanity -- they have an
area displaying examples of the places they build around the world.

The basic idea behind the rally is that it will enable participants to
caravan into FMCA Perry and park together, but you don't HAVE to go to
Perry (I don't plan to, having been plenty of times before); just come on
down and join us!

I've made no arrangements for the caravan & parking at Perry; I'm presuming
if anyone wants to do that, someone will take charge of that from the farm.

If you're interested, or need more information, send me an email or call
229 nine thirty-eight 27 ninety-seven. I'll pass directions and any other
needed information to those who say they're coming.

Wish I could. Headed for Louisville that Tuesday through that weekend.

Sounds fun, Ken. One of these days we're going to be there. Thanks for
your generosity.

See you in Tucson.

As an adjunct to Ken's kind invitation, we spent much too little time there when at we were at Dothan our first time. (We had to get along to see a
nephew's gallery showing and we barely made the last day.) Since then, we have traveled that part of the south east more. And I am going to tell you
that if you ever get in striking range, the National Prisoner of War Museum is a Must See.....

The Confederate Naval Museum was good, but then, ships are my life and I am sure that a normal (maybe a GMC owner) will find it interesting, but to me
it was just amazing. Count on burning some time at both.

That is if you can spare the time from fishing. Ken should fill in that it is private pond so no license would be required in that states that I
know.

Just to reassure you, we won't be there. I know I won't have an engine assembled, much less installed by then.

If you have never been to Ken's for one of these get-togethers, this is a must do. Do not pass up the opportunity. I also visited Andersonville
while I was there.

Ken also took us to a local restaurant for Sunday brunch where we ran into Jimmy and Rosalyn. I can not believed that we still pay for Secret Service
for him but that is a different story.

Do not pass up this opportunity.

Worst job in the Secret Service - Holding the nail for Jimmy at a Habitat build.

As to the fishing, here's the scoop:

Who needs a fishing license?

Anyone age 16 and older must have a current Georgia fishing license in their possession while fishing in freshwater or saltwater in Georgia.
Conservation Rangers may require identification when checking fishing licenses.

Exceptions

* a fishing license is not required to fish in private ponds (this does not include ponds owned by governments - county, state, or federal).
* a fishing license is not required by a landowner and their immediate family when fishing on their land

Ken's Aunt's pond needs no license.
