Hi Ya'll,

This is a puzzler for the Electro-Techies on the Net.

The old laptop Xformer died as we were copying the last files to a
floppy. The plug into the computer is a little fella that plugs into 6
little pins and is about the size of a phone plug.

The input on the transformer is 100-240V 50/60 Hz 60W
The Output side is 12V 2.5A (PC)
12V 0.6A (Batt. 1)
12V 0.6A (Batt. 2)

Batteries one and two died several years ago. (This computer is 14 years
old)

The problem, as I see it, would be to determine which pins are req'd to
get power up long enough to copy the last files and then splice another
power supply with matching specs to this plug.

Any and all suggestions are welcomed but keep in mind I am not only
mechanically challenged as ya'll know by now, but Electronically Useless.
Thanks for your help.

Dave,

What's the make and model of your laptop? I may be able to get a surplus
power supply for you - no splicing needed.

Henry

Dave, I've found that more times than not I can repair these; I've done it
several times for customers (I perform industrial electronic service for a
living and quite often get asked to repair PC's.) If you want to send it to
me, I'll give it a shot (no charge, of course) and either repair it or
splice in a substitute.

The laptop's name is Walkom and the model is NP 903. It also carries the
name Notestar in the manual. It was made in Taiwan by Modern Computer
whom may not be in business today.

I tried to find replacement batteries several years ago but no luck.

Years ago, when I had dead batteries in my Notestar, I cut the battery ca=
se open with a dremel tool and replaced the nicad batteries. Be careful a=
bout overheating the soldering joints. (or you can have "Battery Plus" do=
the surgery)
