Didn't Jim get it right? Nobody is forcing him to do anything. Doesn't that include his choice to remain on the forum on his terms?
If he does, he'll have to provide a whole heck of a lot of value to get much response it seems to me, given the prevailing attitude.
Really, 'join us on our terms, bugger off, or keep doing what you're doing' seem to be his real options.

I dont have the option to create sub forums here. you mean set up a whole new forum? I can look into it and SSL (HTTPS) really should be implemented
with all the personal info thrown around here (part of my issues with that)

I originally was trying to get an admins attention in the sandbox thread to see if that one could be used as a no email list section due to those
problems. I think I covered why already in that thread with the public vs private and co-mingling issues and all that goes with it. and thats why
people that come along and prefer not to transmit private data out into the open get jumped on here too for the most part I think.

Im willing to play a part for the greater GMC good. LOL and I think everybody here is cool, just a whole lot of misunderstandings with the public vs
private stuff.

I thought so too, but AOL is alive and hosting Verizon's email system now, and seems to get it right so far. Must be due to the Verizon ownership.
Occasionally you have to beat them over the head with the password more than once to fetch the mail, and they make up for that by keeping 98% of the
spam at bay. I think my friend just down the road out of range of the DSL signal is still using AOL dial-up on her home computer, so she does all her
computer transactions at work! :lol:

My take on this forum/email setup is, that for the long-time users its like a pair of old shoes... well worn, comfortable and easy to slide into and
out of.
In the past they have seen their postings and photos disappear overnight as sites close-down in the fast changing internet world. This set-up is
stable and within their control (control by their peers) of the content archived within it.

I'm on other forums which use the newer technologies. They are flashy with lots of pictures and other bling, usually run by the marketing arm of some
Corporation. They also require lots of bandwidth to use, something you often don't find in campgrounds or when broken down at the side of the roads.

Now if someone were to come along with the ambition, time and money to setup a new forum platform using today's forum technology I'm sure they would
say go for it, (and I believe there have been some in the past wanting to do it but lost interest). It would need to hook into the existing forum for
those still wanting to wear their old shoes.

I find this forum is for exchanging knowledge and ideas. FB is more like being in a bar. Lots of bling and activity, everyone has something to say
but in the morning not much specific is remembered.

Just my 2 cents

programmers time is up (we all only get so much of it), the data/lifes will continue on. as it is now, what will happen then?

I agree that any upgrade should 'hook into' the existing old shoes too on the condition that its unnoticeable and doesnt cause thread splitting and
useless scrolling through email clutter/artifacts etc. I think it could be done with the current free FUDforum software but batman has no responded to
posts about it in the sandbox subforum.

Ive glanced over FUDforums FAQs, how tos, and updates since this version. its still around and available but devs are few and their own forum is still
HTTP without SSL HTTPS although some threads on it indicate HTTPS is possible with the FUD software.

Im not a ProGrammer but have minor coding skills and have been able to do alot with them occasionally, I might set up a test forum over the winter
just to get more familiar with what it would take to make something like what I would expect from a modern GMC owner group forum and have a few aces
in this area that I can tap the shoulders of occasionally.

what I would like to see most is a place where new owners can start long term build threads that others can stay tuned into and sub forums that are
easily searchable for all the different systems on the GMCs. this will save many more GMCs and make them more attractive to potential owners and that
IS the 'greater GMC good' in the long run.

it would really be cool to bring together all the GMCMI chapters to each have their own sub forum for their events and stuff. that might be tricky
with politics and all but there are many other clubs that have worked through all that and have this type of set-up hosted on their national forums.

GMCMI subchapters. All of them, including GMCMI are chapters with equal
status , as far as FMCA the umbrella organization is concerned.

Thanks for the info, but I don't think she WANTS higher speed internet at home, that may be her only place of refuge away from it each day. Right
in town they have a main line connection at the workplace, and I am 3 miles from there but must be closer to the connection than where she lives, 3
miles on the other side of town. She is south of town and I am east, so there is only about 4 miles between us as birds fly...a bit too far for a
shared connection. Now I have to leave this thread alone so I don't become guilty of hijacking :lol:

I did not, this is the first time Ive read any mention of the FMCA, thanks. sort of explains why they (GMCs) dont have an official forum. I see FMCA
does have a forum but nothing specific to GMC or other makes.

interesting part of the GMC history.. wonder how all that developed into what it is today?

Near as I can figure, lots of dedicated folks spending lots of time over many years creating resources for the GMC Community. It makes finding good,
up-to-date information challenging at times, but it's much better than the alternative.

One great addition would be a regularly curated link list by subject matter experts.

different sites, I offer the "GMC Info Search Page" that searches only the
many GMC Motorhome sites.
You have to ignore the first several links which Google inserts to pay the
bills, but then the remaining links will be from GMC devoted web sites.

FWIW Im getting two different errors from each of the hyperlinks at the bottom of that page. first one is "unable to connect to database" and the next
is "404"
 
No, you don’t have to join FMCA to join some GMC clubs. GMCMI will allow you to join but you cannot vote or attend its conventions because FMCA provides the liability insurance coverage for the conventions and won’t cover you unless you are a FMCA member.
